Casualty: January 2012

Any regular readers may have noticed that my blog was rather dormant from October through November, this was partly because I started a new job (yes I do have a full time day job alongside all the media work) and I had a quick trip to the US to see family.

It was also due to filming commitments – hurrah!

Back in September I was fortunate to audition and be cast in a guest role in BBC1’s Casualty. As I’ve mentioned before the roles for a disabled actress are rather thin on the ground, so when an opportunity like this comes along it feels brilliant; not just on a personal level as an actress but also as a disabled person keen to see better representation of disability on screen. I’m not going to give anything away with spoilers but I had a brilliant time filming it, the cast & crew were great and it’s a pretty damn exciting episode!

It’s a feature length episode due to broadcast on Saturday 7 January 2012, what better way than to spend the first Saturday of the New Year curled up on the sofa watching some quality BBC drama?!

About Shannon Murray

I am an actress, broadcaster, writer and lawyer; not really that unusual but I am also paraplegic as a result of an accident as a teenager.

  2. The campaigining work where you have appeared as yourself is great (and I hope you continue with that) but it’s really cool to see you doing something different, something you enjoy, something you are good at, and perhaps most crucially – something that I feel you would have done anyway – regardless of your accident. Further proof (as if we needed any) of your inspiring character and how you don’t let your disability stop you from doing what you want and achieving in life. Another lesson to us all. As always, best of luck and look forward to your next gig. Kudos Shannon.

    • Hi Claire
Thank you for getting in touch with such lovely feedback.
My agent is Louise at VisAble People, I was asked to attend an audition via my agent.
      Hope that helps.
      Best wishes
      Shannon
